You know that satisfied tired feeling?
I got that today.
As I stated earlier, I’ve been working a lot. Today was a perfect example; scheduled for almost 7 hours, working for almost 11 hours.
11 hours. Doing projection.
And today was the quickest day ever.
I managed to almost mess up a print by causing the worst brain-wrap in the history of projection. Seriously. If you know what I’m talking about, just remember that this was really bad. I had removed the center metal bracket from an entire film sitting on a platter, and this film needed to be broken down into the small rolls of film it is mailed as. So Dave (this older guy) and I start trying to do this, without the metal bracket in the center of a giant circle of film. We get to the last 4th of film, and all hell breaks loose. The film VERY QUICKLY wraps completely around the center “brain” of the platter, making it impossible to pull off. We both just stood there, looking at it.
I finally wrestled it off, but it was a horrible mess. A heavy, limp mass of film in my hands. We probably spent an hour or two getting it back onto a roll by hand. I’m extremely glad Dave didn’t kill me. You should be too.
I also learned quite a bit more today. I learned to change lenses on the projectors (scope vs. flat film) and how to move entire movies from one projector to another (with the help of another person – they are heavy!). It was a busy day, and I think I set several new personal records in threading projectors 1 minute before the start of shows.
“Terminator 3″ had a public sneak, but I couldn’t watch it. We also did sneaks for “Legally Blonde 2″ and “Sinbad,” and I got stuck watching “Sinbad.” I’m not big on cartoon movies, but I have a feeling that it might have been better than the Legally Retarded one. And I got paid for watching it too.
So I worked for 11 hours, and that was my day. I was hoping to catch Amanda online tonight, but that didn’t work out very well. I should get to bed; I work in 12 hours.

Holy crap, definitely wasn’t THAT bad.
I guess you could consider ours a “controlled” brain-wrap.
hey what is it with all the hate?
The hate?
i don’t know where the rest of my comment went!
i meant all the hate with hating charlie’s angels 2 and legally blonde 2!
one love, yo!
Sounds like you’re busy…
Charlie’s Angels was just dreadful. I accidentally deleted your comment, because I’m having troubles with my MySql (which sounds redundant)…
Hey Ned! Nice to see you back… was hoping you hadn’t given up on posting. The My in MySQL is certainly redundant… who else’s SQL could it be?
[...] In my dorky college years (I never left them), I ran movie projectors in the hot hallways of several Wichita, Kan. theaters. Not only was the job a great reason to see every single movie released those two summers (who remembers the classic 2004 flick White Chicks?), it also gave me a few shekels and immense freedom from working some bland temp job in a downtown office building. F’ suits! I spent alternating hours dreaming of Natalie Portman and Jennifer Connelly and occasionally performing sophomore(ic?) math (area of a trapezoid! The Pythagorean theorem!) A great respect was formed for the flickering xenon bulbs in the big hot beasts, a reminder that just one exploding, as they sometimes do, could maim you. I learned every single idiosyncrasy of those machines (and learned how to avoid the dreaded brain wrap from hell.) [...]
