Laundromat

I finally got the courage to find a laundromat.
In movies, the laundromat is seen as a place of socializing; a place cute girls sit and fold their lovely clothes. There’s one about 6 blocks from my house, so I pop in a stick of gum and go.
It’s 9:40 already, but I figure it’ll be less busy this late. I walk in, shove my clothes into a front-loading washer, and dig quarters out of my pocket. An attractive girl is pulling clothes out of a dryer and I say “hi.”
The quarters clink into the washer and it’s then that I realize closing time is in 15 minutes.
I sigh and stand there for almost a minute. I haven’t pressed the START button yet. I open the door, pulling my clothes back out and into my laundry bag.
I ignore the girl’s stares, get in my car and drive away.
Now I don’t want the gum in my mouth.

BEST…UPDATE…EVER
wowza… that’d make a good short film… like one of those 10-minute jobs.
i forgot that laundromats closed. kansas is full of both social people and very resentingly reclusive people. it’s hit and miss with who you find these days. especially in our age bracket.
a fine post, Mr. Adam!
