This is simply due to the nature of their releases. You can pre-purchase a “beta” of a book on occasion. You get a print copy. Then later, the pdf copy is frequently updated, especially with titles such as my sole PragProg purchase thus far: “Hello Android.” This way you have some sort of jumping point in hand, but you’re not stuck 3 years down the line when the platform has doubled in size.

And yes, gadgets… give them to me!
